Asp.net 2.0 new features

1. Site maintainence app_offline.htm

There is a simple way to bring down your ASP.NET 2.0 application. The only thing you have to do is to create simple html file called App_offline.htm and deploy it to your ASP.NET 2.0 web application root directory. The rest is handled by ASP.NET runtime internal routines.

2. Tips & tricks

Asp.net 2.0 Wizard control

This is one of those new controls in Asp.net 2.o. The best easy to follow examples are available in Asp.net QuickStart tutorials. A video tutorial is also available in MSDN website.

However, this new control missing a few very important features
1. Unable to Enable/Disable navigation buttons. there are some tricks by asp.net forum users see this http://forums.asp.net/thread/1227570.aspx.

2. Unable to set property
Although we can get hold of the link in SideBar, but unable to do the same thing as above.

Asp.net 2.0 Master page

The following two articles by Scott gave you a basic to advanced about master page. After reading that, you should be able to use the Master page with ease.

No white space in cookie string

Response.Cookies["UserData"].Value = str

The "str" SHOULDN'T contain any of these "\r", "\t", "\n", otherwise it won't set the cookie and not telling you, and you don't know what's going wrong.

UserControl input value not changing

If you use LoadControl to dynamically creating user controls. To assign new values to fields in the user control, you will need to make that assignment in the page PreRender event not page Load event.

The page Load event of the UserControl will be only called when it's added to the parent container.

Encoding "+" etc. in URL

The Javascript escape function didn't encode + ' " / £ characters. You will need to do the replacing as follows, otherwise, you won't get what you want.
